The Friendly Studio
Situated in a secluded location on the outskirts of Sheffield, surrounded by trees, yet only 5 minutes from Meadowhall and between junctions 34 and 35 of the M1. Modern equipment and software allow for clean recording with a relaxed ambience to stimulate creativity.
Recording should be an exciting creative process. It is not about how much gear you have but how you use it and how imaginative the people involved are. Here at secret studios the atmosphere and location is as important as our advanced recording facilities. A secluded spot surrounded by trees and a babbling brook yet only a mile away from the M1 junction 34 and Meadowhall. A good recording is well played, well engineered, and thoughtfully produced; a great recording requires much more vision and imagination with integrity.
Secret studios is a facility capable of up to 32 track simultaneous recording with 128 tracks in total direct to digital with Cubase or Protools. The control room has a 40 channel analogue Soundcraft 8000 with full 4 band parametric E.Q. and up to 8 auxiliaries. Monitoring is Dynaudio with a Beyer Dynamic amp and Excel active nearfields with a Sony broadcast 31-band graphic. Additional to the huge library of plug-ins there are compressor/gates by dbx1066, L.A.Audio GCX2, Drawmer Lx21 and Symetrix 425,as well as an Aphex exciter.
The live area is 33’x28’, over 900 sq feet with acoustic screens for greater separation. Over 40 microphones are available, by Audio Technica, AKG, Beyer Dynamic, Sennheiser, and Shure.
The studio is also available as rehearsal space when not being used for recording purposes.
Keyboards include a Hammond L111 valve tone wheel organ circa 1966, Korg CX3 drawbar organ circa 1979, Yamaha DX100 circa 1986, Roland JX10P circa 1987, Korg SP200 digital piano, Korg MS2000 modelling synth, Kurzweil K2500 with additional orchestral and KDFX boards, Kurzweil K2000R with additional sampling board and other rack mount modules from Kawai and Roland. A variety of plug-ins of other classic keyboards are also available.
